Awana

Awana is an international, Bible-centered youth ministry providing local churches with weekly clubs and programs. Bay Leaf Baptist Church offers Awana to children preschool through fifth grade. Our goal is to reach boys and girls, and their families, with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. The acronym Awana comes from the first letters of the phrase “approved workmen are not ashamed“ (2 Timothy 2:15). View the Awana Parent's Handbook.

Our Awana Club takes place on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:45 and runs on a traditional school year schedule(beginning in September), although children may join at any time of the year. Register your child online now.

Awana is divided up into age appropriate clubs: Puggles (older 2 and younger 3 year olds), Cubbies (3 and 4 years old), Sparks (Kindergarten - Second Grade), and Truth & Training (Third - Fifth Grade). On Club night, children will experience three different segments; Handbook Time is where Clubbers recite the Bible verses that they have diligently studied, Counsel Time is where Clubbers hear a message from God’s Word, and Game Time is where Clubbers have a blast playing games. Children get excited about Awana and your child would not want to miss this evening!

The Programs

Puggles ProgramPuggles logo
Puggles is an enriching program for your pre-Cubbies kids, usually older 2 and younger 3 year olds, that presents basic biblical concepts: We are a unique creation of God & God loves us very much.

Puggles learn simple lessons through teaching cards, activities, music and more. Puggles leaders have a leader's guidebook to help them plan and direct Puggles time and communicate the lesson.

Then parents - a Puggle's first and best teacher - can step in to reinforce the lessons with take-home cards that include ideas to pount out God's work each day. And little details like Puggles t-shirts, puzzles and coloring books make every precious child feel like part of the group.

Cubbies Program

CubbieCubbies consist of children 3 and 4 years of age and they enjoy learning about the Bible and Christ’s teachings through games, Bible memorization, and activities. Cubbies enjoy coming together for group time where they learn the evening Bible story and message, enjoy songs, and receive awards for Bible memorization.  Cubbie Bear is a very important part of group time for our young clubbers.  After group time, children head back to their classrooms to enjoy a special snack and craft project.

Sparks Program
SparkieSparks consist of children in Kindergarten – Second grade and they light the world for Jesus.  Sparks gather together to enjoy an opening ceremony to get their minds focused on learning about Christ.  Then they break out into groups to enjoy Bible stories, reciting of memory verses, and challenging games.  Awards are given to Sparks who are progressing in their handbooks.

Truth & Training Clubs
truth and training
The name Truth & Training reflects the passion of Awana to teach third through fifth grade boys and girls the truth of God’s Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives.  The four handbooks in The Ultimate Adventure Series, feature a different theme. Every great, themed adventure the kids have while learning about God's Word is based on reality: real locations, real facts, and realistic experiences that any kid could have.  None of the settings are fantasy-based because the ultimate adventure of knowing the Lord Jesus is way better!
