Kindergarten

For over 10 years, Little Lambs has provided a half-day Kindergarten. Our Kindergarten class strives to provide a warm and loving environment that allows for students to feel confident as they engage in active learning throughout the day. Each day, our students are involved in teacher directed, small group, and individual learning activities. Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the whole child. Therefore, it contains the daily subjects of Bible, reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, science, art, and music and movement. Each of these areas are assessed throughout the year and recorded and shared with each family to ensure the most success for your student’s progress.

Bible

Each day, our students are engaged in a weekly Bible story. The Gospel Light Bible program that we use offers visuals and insights on the stories students are learning. They also will be engaged in Scripture memory verses, fun Bible songs, and character development.

Language and Literacy

We follow the Letterland phonics program for our reading instruction time. This program has a strong phonetic foundation. Students will become skilled readers as they learn the name and sound of short vowels, consonants, blends, long vowel sounds, vowel rules, and special sounds. Students are able to put to practice what they are learning as they participate in small group learning and centers. They are also learning comprehension skills as they are involved in read alouds and answer in-depth questions to stories they are reading. Our writing program follows along with the Letterland reading program. This ensures that they are learning to correctly write what they are saying and reading. Students are also involved in journal writing.

Mathematics

Throughout the year, kindergarteners will learn shapes, patterns, position words, comparisons and calendar parts. They will also learn other concepts such as money, time, measurement, addition and subtraction. Students learn to count and recognize numbers 1-100, count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. Our teachers use a variety of activities to help their students learn these concepts throughout the year.

Social Studies and Science

Our social studies and science lessons are theme based and designed to allow students to gain understanding of the community and world around them. Each week they are engaged in hands on activities that help them build their knowledge of those themes. Some of the themes include: Space, Community Helpers, Animals and their Habitats, and Weather.
