Bay Leaf Electronic Communication Guidelines

As leaders engage with your student, be mindful that the Bay Leaf staff is committed to providing for your student’s overall well-being, especially concerning his/her relationship with the Lord and His church. This page provides highlights of our policies that guid electronic interactions with students.

  • Bay Leaf safe child policies do not allow one-on-one mixed gender texting (Example: male ministry leader to female students under the age of 18).
  • Bay Leaf policies require student staff leaders to notify parents when sending 1-1 electronic communication to students (same gender; see the point above this one). This link provides this announcement. We encourage parents to be alert when their students are texting with adult leaders.
  • Student leaders are not allowed to delete texts and leaders understand text exchanges with students are subject to parent review.
  • Electronic communication involving male and female students may come in a group text format (minimum 4 people). Most often, staff will utilize the group me app.
  • What applies to texting also applies to private messaging on social media apps.
  • Bay Leaf has previously provided parent trainings on safe child best practices free of charge. We will continue to do so for any parent that inquires. Contact Pastor Jeff (jsalisbury@bayleaf.org)  if you would like access to this training. Also, you may visit this website for a preview.
