Matthew 2:2-12

The Days After the Birth of Jesus

In the days after Jesus’ birth, word began to spread that a King had come, and some were willing to travel far to worship Him. Matthew 2:2-12 draws our attention to the response of the wise men, their joyful pursuit, humble worship, and costly gifts offered to Christ. This Sunday, we will conclude our The Thrill of Hope sermon series by reflecting on how God revealed His Son to the nations and how true worship still calls for trust and obedience. Take time this weekend to read the passage and consider how it invites you to seek and adore Christ. As we gather for this final message in the series, may our hearts be ready to rejoice in the hope that has come into the world and still leads us to worship today.

O Come All Ye Faithful

Lyrics

We will be singing Verses 1, 3, 4

Verse 1
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come, and behold Him, born the King of angels!

O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!

Verse 2
God of God, Light of Light,
lo, He abhors not the virgin's womb;
very God, begotten not created;

O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!

Verse 3
Sing, choirs of angels; sing in exultation;
sing, all ye citizens of heav'n above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest!

O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!

Verse 4
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv'n!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing!

O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him;
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!

Joy To The World

Lyrics

Joy to the world; the Lord is come;
Let Earth receive her King;
Let ev'ry heart prepare him room,
And heav'n and nature sing.

Joy to the Earth, the Savior reigns;
Our mortal songs employ,
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains,
Repeat the sounding joy.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of his righteousness,
And wonders of his love.

What Child Is This

Lyrics

What Child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?

This, this is Christ, the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary!

Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian, fear: for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.

Chorus in this song's recording:
Nails, spear shall pierce him through,
the cross be borne for me, for you;
hail, hail the Word made flesh,
the babe, the son of Mary!

Chorus we will sing:
This, this is Christ, the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary!

So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh,
Come, peasant, king to own Him.
The King of kings salvation brings;
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.

This, this is Christ, the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary!
