Live Sent Where God Has Placed You
Take a Step
Jesus calls His disciples to follow Him and joins them to His mission. We believe that means every believer has a part in making disciples, right where God has placed us.
The four practices below are not a formula, and relationships rarely move in a perfectly straight line. But they help us see how we can grow: engaging the people around us, making room for relationships, sharing the gospel clearly, and walking with others as they follow Jesus.
Ask the Lord to show you where you need to grow. Then start there.
Engage Your Community
Engaging your community starts with paying attention. It is easy to move through the same streets, stores, schools, and routines without really seeing the people around us. We want to live with our eyes open.
This is about genuinely knowing, serving, and caring for people; not treating them like projects.
A few ways to begin:
- Learn a neighbor’s name and take time to hear their story.
- Attend a neighborhood or community event.
- Pray with someone who shares a need.
- Serve consistently in a place where relationships can grow.
- Spend time where people in your community naturally gather.
Where do you already have a chance to show up more intentionally? Choose one place you already go. Pray that God will help you notice one person and give you a chance to know or serve them better.
Practice Hospitality
Hospitality does not start with a perfect home or an impressive meal. It starts with making room for people.
Sometimes that happens around a table. Sometimes it is coffee, a backyard, a ballgame, or inviting someone into plans you were already making. The setting matters far less than the welcome.
A few ways to begin:
- Invite a neighbor to share a meal.
- Ask another family to join you at the park.
- Have a coworker over to watch a game.
- Invite someone to join something you are already doing.
- Make room at your table for someone you would like to know better.
Who could you make room for? Think of one person or family and invite them. Keep it simple. You are not trying to impress anyone; you are making room to know them better.
Share the Gospel
The gospel is good news, and people need to hear it clearly.
Evangelism means telling someone who Jesus is, what He accomplished through His death and resurrection, and calling them to repent, believe, and follow Him. You may not feel ready. You may not have every answer. That should not stop us from sharing the gospel.
A few ways to begin:
- Share how Jesus has changed your life.
- Explain the gospel during a spiritual conversation. Here’s a link to the 3 Circles method.
- Ask someone what they believe about Jesus.
- Offer to read the Bible with someone who has questions.
- Clearly invite someone to repent, believe in Jesus, and follow Him.
Who in your life needs to hear the gospel? Write down one name. Pray for an opportunity to talk with that person about Jesus, and ask God for the courage and clarity to speak when the moment comes.
Make Disciples
Jesus did not tell His followers simply to make converts. He told us to make disciples.
That work happens as we walk with people and help them know God’s Word, obey Jesus, grow in prayer, and keep following Him. You do not need to know everything before you can help someone grow. Often, discipleship looks like a faithful relationship shaped by the Spirit and the Word.
A few ways to begin:
- Walk through the Commands of Christ study with them.
- Read Scripture regularly with another person.
- Pray together and help one another grow in prayer.
- Help a new believer understand a next step of obedience.
- Invite someone into your group or another place of biblical community.
- Share what God is teaching you and ask what He is teaching them.
Who could you help take a next step in following Jesus? Ask one person to meet with you. Open God’s Word, talk honestly about following Jesus, and pray for one another.
Begin with the People in Front of You
Look around your life. Who is already there? Pray for those people. Ask God where you need to grow, then be willing to respond as He opens a door. You do not need to see the whole path before you begin. Be faithful with the next opportunity He gives you. Until everyone hears.
